It's the little things... [Anniversary Getaway]

Wednesday, July 2, 2014

This past weekend the Mr. and I had a little getaway, thanks to Grandma and Papa taking the Little for the weekend. In celebration of our 6th anniversary, we headed to Fort Collins for the Colorado Brewers' Festival and a night the Armstrong Hotel, a historic, boutique hotel downtown.

The weekend was perfect and we had a great time together. At one point we looked at each other and the Mr. said, 'is this where you thought we'd be in 6 years?' I had to take a second and think because I don't know what I thought. I don't think I could've imagined this - we are at such a good place, growing our family and enjoying life. Just like it's hard to even fathom in another 6 years what our lives will be like.

Here are a few little things from our weekend..

The hotel was in a perfect location, we were able to walk everywhere, and the weather was beautifully summery. A few little details from our hotel..
My husband is a beer FANATIC. He homebrews and loves all things beer. I, on the other hand, do not drink beer - but I love a good festival and trying new things, and especially enjoy a chance to spend time with the Mr. We've done quite a few beer fests together and always have a great time, so it was no question we'd check this one out together for our anniversary weekend!!
Some of the beers we sampled:
Peanut Brittle Red
Blueberry Wheat
Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout
Watermelon Kolsch
Ol' Stumpy Cider
Footwarmer Barleywine
Orchard Wheat Pale Ale
Pineapple Cider

Since I wasn't indulging in beer, I made sure to enjoy the food. We 'dined' on a jalapeno soft pretzel, turkey leg, poutine (hand-cut fries topped with a brown sauce (gravy) and cheese curds), pretzel brat, fish tacos, chocolate nutter butter pudding, LaMar's donuts.. All were delicious!!
We enjoyed a nice dinner together at The Mainline Ale House that opened up to the downtown street (and had the BEST fries and hot'chup). We watched the surrounding tables with a few kids and smiled and thought, it's totally ok, we know how it goes, but I soaked up every child-free moment and savored the meal without having to help feed another person. :)
We found this perfectly quaint alleyway that seemed to be something out of a storybook from far, far away. If only it had been dark and the stings of lights overhead were glowing..
Since a kid, I've always enjoyed going to Mass at and seeing other churches. Our weekend was no exception, so we headed to Sunday morning Mass before another afternoon at the beer fest.

Sunday was especially HOT, so we got in some more sampling of Sunday-only beers and decided to call it a day before it got too crowded. On our way out of town we stopped by a local brewery and hop farm. Some friends of ours were so kind to meet us last minute to visit and catch up. After a few brews and laughs, we packed up our new hop plant and headed back to pick up our little guy.

It was a great weekend together, just the two of us, full of little things and moments I hope to remember in another 6 years when we look at each other and think, 'is this where you thought we'd be..?'
