Getting to know you..

Getting to know all about you.. Ha! Sorry if you have that song stuck in your head now. :)

When I first started blogging I was so nervous to 'meet' people and always thought other bloggers would think I was weird because I commented on their stuff and be like, 'you don't know me'.. However, thankfully, there have been some really kind, friendly and supportive ladies I've met. It's been fun especially to connect with other mommas who have kids around the same age and/or similar interests, etc. In particular, the ever-so-sweet Elizabeth at Chasin' Mason. She's been like the upper classman making the freshman feel like it was ok to come to school. So THANK YOU Elizabeth, you've helped make me comfortable with blogging and always been so kind to include, comment and connect.

Recently A while ago, she 'nominated' me for the The Liebster Award, a fun way to discover new blogs and find out more about each other. Bloggers nominate/ask others a handful of questions and then pass it along to more newer bloggers.

1. How did you come up with your blog name?
Shortly after getting married, we bought our first home together in 2009. We love our home and it is absolutely perfect for us right now, in so many ways. We love to entertain and be surrounded by family and friends, so when we'd have parties or get togehters at our house, we'd I'd always refer to the 'location' as Chateau Deveau - I guess I found it clever and funny as it sounds fancy and elegant, but in reality we are simple people and there isn't much of anything real fancy about us.. :) When trying to come up with a blog title, I felt as much pressure as naming a child or something..!! I brainstormed a few ideas with the Mr., but kept coming back to 'Chateau Deveau' because that was our home, our space. So I guess it just worked for our blog about our life and whatever else we decided to touch on.

2. How did you and your husband meet?
The Mr. and I met at college. We both played collegiate sports, he-basketball, me-volleyball. The basketball team had the gym for practice after we did, so we saw each other often - the guys always seemed to show up early to catch some of our practice. :) My best friend and teammate was dating (and is now married to) the Mr.'s roommate so that was convenient for her to introduce us and we hit it of from there..

3. What is your favorite month of the year? And why?
Probably April for a few reasons - (1) my birthday is in April (I love gifts) and I tend to celebrate all month, (2) it's a beautiful time of year, there is always such a feeling of refreshment and renewal when Spring is in the air. Then again December is pretty nice as there is Christmas (more presents) and the coziness and excitement of the holidays is just too fun. I'd call it a tie.

4. What is your favorite recipe?
Lately I've been LOVING a recipe for Skillet Lasagna (similar to this one). It's a one pan kind of supper that is relatively easy to throw together and then it can finish cooking on it's own. It's DELICIOUS and the Little scarfs it each time I make it. I use gluten free oven-ready lasagna noodles, just a pound of ground beef (or ground turkey) and then chop up and throw in some fresh spinach and it's a great supper!!

5. If you could plan your dream vacation right now (with money not being an issue), where would you go?
Europe - I'd like to go back to Germany, Ireland. I want to go to Prague, Amsterdam and London.
And then Australia, just for fun, since money is not an issue. :) Ever since I was a kid I've always wanted to see the beauty of this place in real life. Then maybe take a cruise and go somewhere exotic and beachy so I could get a really good tan.

6. As a mom, I'm sure you watch more than your fair share of cartoons. What is one you just can't stand?
Easy - Calliou. Ugh, can't stand that kid show.

7. What is your favorite place to shop?
Most of my recent shopping has been online - GAP and Old Navy (although ON seems to be very hit or miss), Forever XXI - their Love21 line fits a little larger (I'm 5'10") and is trendy/affordable. I'm really not picky, but not too fancy either - I can find stuff at JCPenney and Kohls, Target or Dillards. Just give me some money and I'll find a place to spend it!! :) Check out my most recent purchases here.

8. How do you find a work/home/family balance?
I don't have to bring work home with me (usually) so once I leave work, I'm able to 'forget it' and it's not necessarily on my mind. My struggle is more with errands/housework and relax/family/personal time. I can usually find balance once it's all done, but since it's never done I try to prioritize, make lists and occasionally ask for help. The Mr. is the one to enforce 'balance'. He's great at encouraging me to not worry about whatever things I haven't got done and to sit down and enjoy a show together or to take a little time for myself.

9. What is in your purse right now?
Two pouches - one with a few diapers, wipes, and other Little-related necessities, another with my personal items, snacks, small book, notepad (as you can see always provides good entertainment), lip gloss, matchbox car, sunscreen, wallet/checkbook, gum, reusable bag and quite a few other random/etc. items. So, not exactly picture-perfect but rather real life necessities.

10. If you could have one super power, what would it be?
Oh geez, isn't the best answer to this omnipotence, the quality of having unlimited and very great power..?! If I just had it all, I could do it all, get it all, know it all - all problems solved. Haha :)

11. What is your favorite blog post?
Of my own..? I really enjoyed our post about the Toddler Gift Exchange we took part in. I just loved the pictures of Tyson opening his gift and seeing him light up with excitement, it was also fun to connect with others and share in an exchange. Our baby #2 announcement is a favorite too as it was so exciting to share such big news and was something I was anxious to post.

Thanks again Elizabeth for the nomination and questions.

Now I nominate YOU!!

  1. Laureen - This was really fun to read! I love how you came up with the name for your blog. And, I think it is so neat that you and your husband met because you both were playing college sports - very cool! I'm not surprised that he was a college B-Ball player - he looks so tall in your photos! :)

    1. Thanks Alissa!! Yes, those were the good 'ol days in college. Haha My husband is 6'6". Being tall myself (5'10") I figured the basketball team was a good place to find someone so I could always wear whatever shoes I want and he'd still be taller. ;)

  2. Yay!!! Thank you so much for the sweet words! I've really enjoyed "meeting" you and reading your blogs too! And thank you for always being so sweet! I loved learning more about you and am excited you posted this! :)

    1. Thank you Elizabeth!! :) YOU are so sweet and I'm thankful we've become friends.

  3. I did not at all notice Tyson in the first picture up there. I had to do a double take. He looks oh so tiny, or you have a gigantic table. =) And, right? Isn't naming your blog harder than naming a kid?
haha, I enjoy your reasons for liking April and December! Gifts, those are nice.
