It's the little things...

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

My first link up party!! I'm joining Sadie Sky Boutique and Words About Waverly to be 'reminded that it's the little things that make life sweet'.. Find out a little more about it here.
Sadie Sky Boutique

Holy cow do I need this reminder often; especially lately while my stress levels are high and I have too many things on my mind.

I'm taking little to a whole new level as I say it's been the little things:

My dinners have been off the chain this week.

Yes, I know it's only Wednesday. Monday was a last minute, thrown together gluten free lasagna with mushrooms/spinach and Tuesday we had grilled sesame chicken tenders and broccoli. Both meals turned out quite delicious and were devoured by the Mr. and Little. Win/win.

My oh-so helpful sous chef.
I know, child genius.

Take a second to enjoy the little things!!

Weekend Wear: Bouclé

Sunday, January 26, 2014

Jacket: Old Navy
Pants: H&M
Watch: Fossil | Bracelet: Stella & Dot

This bouclé jacket has a very mature, structured look so I thought adding my favorite, comfortable, green pants would help lighten up the look.
In other words, this jacket makes me feel like an old, British woman so I thought adding colored pants would help dumb it down.

Hope you had a nice weekend!!

Go Beadles

Thursday, January 23, 2014

As you know if you have any interest in sports, the Denver Broncos won the AFC championship and are going to the Super Bowl!!

I have a new favorite amongst the Broncos, Zane Beadles.

Watch his appearance on the Ellen Show:
What a cool ass dude, seriously.

His foundation (Zane Beadles Parade Foundation) enriches lives of children and youth facing unfortunate situations by gifting them with experiences and opportunities they would not have the chance to enjoy. The foundation also creates new experiences for the pediatric cancer patients at Brent’s Place and for underrepresented students pursing math and science programs through the Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists (CABPES).

In particular though, I feel it especially important to share about Mr. Beadles in light of recent publicity surrounding particular NFL players/interviews. Use your position and power, if you will, to do good. Let's not give attention to anything less.

Thank you Zane Beadles for being such a respectful, positive and upstanding man and athlete. I'd buy your jersey if I weren't so cheap.

Circus Party

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

In honor of our nephew's birthday today, here's a glimpse at his super fun circus themed party last weekend.

Complete with an amazing, three-tier circus cake (made by my talented SIL), a bounce house, the most delicious peanut butter frosting and a WIN from our own Denver Broncos (we're going to the SUPER BOWL!!), it was a great success and a fun time with family and friends.

Giving gifts

Friday, January 17, 2014

Although I absolutely looooooove getting gifts, I really enjoy giving them as well.

Last weekend we celebrated my sister-in-law's birthday with an Italian family dinner out with all three of our little boys (cousins, all under the age of 3), including delicious peach bellinis and a cute little gift just for her.

We got her some washi tape, pink pens, this cookbook and an adorable pink spiral calendar/planner from the Sugar Paper for Target collection. I wrapped it with some fun wrapping paper (from the Dollar Spot at Target) and tied it all together with some colored baker's twine.

It really is better to give than to receive.

[Gluten free] Mixed Berry Muffins

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

At Chateau Deveau, we like to be/eat healthy. I eat primarily gluten-free, due to an intolerance, I cook a homemade dinner 4-6 nights a week and we try to keep preservatives out of the house. Which leads to my attempts to make all recipes 'my own' and a bit 'healthier'...

I found this recipe via Pinterest and made more a few more of my own modifications (see below recipe)..

Mixed Berry Muffins
adapted from the Magnolia Bakery Cookbook
makes 12-16 muffins

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups buttermilk (or whole milk)
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups mixed berries

Preheat oven to 350F and prepare 12-16 muffin cups.

Combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl and whisk together. Make a well in the center and stir in the wet ingredients until just combined (do not over mix). The batter will be lumpy.

Toss the berries with a little bit of flour, just to coat, and gently fold into the batter. Divide between the muffin cups and bake for 20-30 minutes, until the tops are very lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out with moist crumbs attached. Do not over bake.

**I made the following changes:
Gluten-free flour mix (instead of all purpose flour) + guar gum
Greek yogurt + whole milk (instead of buttermilk)
Freeze dried fruit (rather than fresh berries, obviously not necessarily healthier, they just needed used.)

My concoction made more like 20 muffins. They turned out pretty dry, a little crumbly and not very sweet, but definitely edible!! The Mr. approved, the real test will be if the Little eats them..

The Mr. (Dan) - supportive husband, amazing father, loving son, instigative brother. Handsome, funny, loyal. My best friend, my rock. Engineer (smart fellow), baller (athletic), beer maker. Did I mention handsome and funny?
I told you..

Seriously.
