It's the little things... [Around the house]

Happy Wednesday!! Linking up with Sadie Sky Boutique and Words About Waverly.

Sadie Sky Boutique
Here are a few little things around the house making me smile this week...

The vintage Easter decorations that my Mom always had on display, now making our house a little more festive; along with the blue bunny basket, handmade by my Pops.
This antler the Mr. brought home from a hunting trip.
My custom spine bookshelf, handmade by my Dad.
The Little playing with my old Easter wind-up toys (that unfortunately no longer work). I'm thinking he needs something like this in his basket this year..

Take some time to slow down and appreciate the little things around you!!

Turning 30: Wish List

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

With April quickly approaching, I figured it's only appropriate to get a wish list out there. April = BIRTHMONTH. Let the planning and celebrating begin. PLUS it's the big 3-0... I'm thinking lots of flowers, balloons, and fireworks, peanut butter rice krispie treats and gluten-free donuts..

I've been trying to keep track of a few 'wish list' items on my pinterest board here, and I always have a running note on my iphone so I'm ready at a moments notice to share. :) Never want to forget a great idea..!!
Medium/small salad plates: I've been using this particular size of plate a lot lately and it wouldn't hurt to have another set in the cupboard. Must be microwave and dishwasher-safe. Simple is fine.
Textured or colorful hand towels for powder bath: The Threshold collection from Target has some pretty good options. Also, textured paisley and green global medallion caught my eye for something a little different.
Fauxidermy: Because our parlor needs this deer head or ram. Or I'd take antlers..

Natural glow daily moisturizer: As close to tanning or sunbathing as I'll get being on the go.

Graphic tee: These J.CREW tees are adorable.. But $30-$40 for a t-shirt..? I'm not usually into that. Ily Couture has some good choices that I'd say fit me pretty well - Wifey tee/tank, Cliché = perfect. Old Navy usually has a few options, sans store name.. Botanical, Parisian, Nautical

Crossbody bag: Wide strap that will be comfortable to wear with a few pockets to help get by with the smaller capacity. Relic from Kohls - Cognac, Splurges from Dillards - Fossil color Saddle, or Mint

Boat shoes: I can see myself living in these this spring/summer, they'd go great with a cute graphic tee (see above).. And on sale - Old Navy Metallic-finish - Gold

Lip gloss and candles: Because you can never have too many, and it's a bummer when they run out.

Laptop: Pretty pretty please..?!?!  Apple MacBook Pro

Not pictured (but equally as important):
Name bar necklace: I've really been into the personalized jewelry lately + dainty necklaces. Love the idea of using coordinates (like where the Mr. and I met, or got married, or where the Little was born, etc..) or simply initials. Plain gold plate, personalized gold plate, or custom hand-stamped jewelry from R&E Avenue.

Kitchen gadgets: High-heat, silicone whisk, 'cookie' scoops

Phone case: How fun are these by Jen Ramos/MadeByGirl?!

Vacation: I'm thinking somewhere warm and beachy that's very relaxing and people bring you things when you need it and all meals are prepared for you..

Am I missing anything..? Any tips on making collages for a blog post?

St. Patrick's Day 2014

Monday, March 17, 2014

Good morning!!

Hope you had a great weekend and are adorning your green proudly today. I'm obviously wearing the most wrinkly shirt I could find (thanks commute).. Lovely. At least my gold accessories are cute!! The spike cuff is my new favorite (Forever21-not sure if it's still available though..).
The many faces of Tyson.. Pretty cute little good luck charm.
Here's the little cheese-face (with his cousin) last year on St. Patrick's Day... Seriously?!
In other news, I'm guest posting about being a #BOYMOM over at Chasin' Mason today. Check it out here!! It's been a fun series to follow and see how although we all have very different experiences, so much is the same - little boys and a mother's love. It was so fun to share a little bit of our story/experiences.

Thursday things...

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Another week is flying by - here are a few random things...

Tonight we are taking dinner to some friends who recently had a baby. So, last night I put together chicken enchiladas for them (and us) and made some muffins. Feels great to know tonight's dinner is already made and just needs to be put in the oven..!! I made this recipe for the muffins, with my own adjustments of course.. And they turned out pretty dang good, I was impressed!! :)

[Gluten Free] Skinny Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins
from Shugary Sweets

2 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup agave nectar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 large bananas, mashed
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
6 oz vanilla greek yogurt
1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate morsels

In a large mixing bowl, beat honey, agave nectar, egg, vanilla and banana until blended. Add flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt and yogurt. Beat for 1-2 minutes until fully combined. Fold in chocolate morsels.

Grease cupcake tin with nonstick baking spray. Spoon batter into each tin (about 1/4 cup). Bake in a 350 degree oven for 18-20 minutes. For mini, muffins, bake 11-13 minutes. Remove and cool on wire rack. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for later use.

**I made the following changes:
I didn't have agave, so I used a 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
Gluten-free flour mix (instead of all-purpose/whole wheat flour) + guar gum
I just realized it calls for vanilla greek yogurt, I used plain

We recently took some newborn/family pictures for some friends of ours.
She surprised me with a sweet necklace as a thank you and it just made my day. It was so thoughtful and unexpected, including a little 'T' for my special little guy.
Speaking of that little guy...

This week he's been on a major 'dad-kick'.. As soon as the Mr. gets home from work, he wants picked up by dad.. We were grilling steaks for dinner last night and as soon as the Mr. would go out to the grill, Tyson would whine/cry that dad left him.. This morning when we went to get him up, he only wanted pick up by dad.. When I hold him, he reaches out for dad to take him..
Hmmm.. :( I'm sure it's a phase and I'm trying not to take it personal, but...!! Is this normal?! Or does my son already think I'm not cool.. :) Please tell me I'm not the only one...?!?!

Hope you're having a great week. The weekend is almost here!!

The Older Man..

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Ok, chill out, it's the Mr (the older man).

Last week was his birthday, the BIG 3-0. We had a great time celebrating, as you can see only captured by iPhone pictures.. Celebrations included THIRTY beers and specially made to order homemade meals for the week..
On Saturday we met up with his family for some bowling and fun. I think everyone had a good time, especially the boys (first time bowling). My SIL is a baker and cake master, so she made a personalized bottle cap cake - it was delicious, fluffy, coconut-y goodness.
Tyson loved bowling but wasn't sure why it wasn't his turn EVERY time - he even bowled a strike!!
The clapping and excitement when he'd turn around was the best..!!
We then spent a good hour using the free arcade credits we were given for the wait. I think the adults had just as much fun as the kids..
The next day, we met up with my parents for a sunny afternoon at the park and a nice, German dinner together. Of course there was beer.
All the family time made for a wonderful weekend and I hope the Mr. felt the love and appreciation we all have for him. I'm always happy to celebrate HIM (and of course proud be his younger woman).
Happy 30th Birthday, my dear!!
Looking forward to what this next year has in store for you. xoxo

It's the little things... [Ash Wednesday]

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Happy Wednesday!! Back this week to linking up with Sadie Sky Boutique and Words About Waverly...
Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season. We go to Mass and receive ashes on our forehead and are told 'from dust you came and dust you shall return'.. A reminder that we don't belong to this world, we are mortal and sinners but have the opportunity for forgiveness and conversion. We use this solemn journey for penance, preparation and repentance.
The most common question/practice during this time is, 'what are you giving up..?' or I see announcements of 40-day sacrifice/pledge on social media, etc.

Instead, let's take a moment to not just look at the 'giving up', but rather how/what little things can I add to my life/habits/routine/faith that will bring me closer to the Lord? Besides removing distractions + fasting/penance (passing up on that glutenous dessert or skipping a tv show to read a book), how am I going to grow in my faith and my life? To be a better Christian, wife, mother?

Are you Catholic? What little things could you do to improve yourself - as a person and/or a Christian?

A Little Texas Trip

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

I know you are ALL wondering where I've been... :) Don't worry, I'm back. I had the honor of taking a little trip with my Mom to go visit my younger sister in Texas.
We had a great time - enjoyed the warm weather, ate delicious meals together, got to see my sister's stompin' grounds and just really enjoyed each other's company. Sometimes I forget my little sister is all grown up and successful. This was a good chance to see her in her element and taking over Texas.. ;) I also enjoyed the time with my Mom as mom (rather than Grandma).

One afternoon we went downtown Fort Worth to enjoy the sun and check out the Water Gardens, a neat little park with three different water features.
You could walk down to the bottom on the dry steps at this one. As my Mom pointed out, this was a good example of how powerful water can be as it was running out slowly and lightly at the top but as it all rushed down together it was loud and forceful.

It wouldn't have been a complete trip with my sister without checking out the Stock Yards, so we checked out the happenings there and had steaks at Riscky's.

I am so glad I took this little trip and was able to spend time with my Mom and sister. We were bummed to miss our other sister (but thank goodness she was home last weekend, as her husband was in a bicycle accident). On that note - please send prayers for healing, pain relief and strength for them. Thanks. :)

We had some wild and crazy popcorn/movie nights, morning walks and shopping trips to Garden Ridge and Sam Moon - holy Texas-sized accessories. As my sister predicted, I was overwhelmed.
The days away from the Mr. and Little went fast, but I of course missed them. They had great male-bonding time at home and made out just fine without me - although I think we were all equally excited to see each other and be back together.
